Introduction to Vancouver

Vancouver is situated in the South West of British Columbia in Canada just north of the United States border. Geographically speaking Vancouver lies between the Fraser River delta and Burrard Inlet which forms a massive estuary. Situated just south of Vancouver is Bellingham (Washington.)

Burrard inlet is a 37 kilometre long inlet which is bordered by the Pacific Ocean on the west and by the river Fraser river delta on the other side. The width of the inlet ranges from 1 to 4 miles. The inlet is named after Sir Harry Burrard who had served with George Vancouver as navigator in 1792.

Today Vancouver is a industrial and commercial centre. The fact that there is a ice free natural port in Vancouver also aids its economic position and development. Vancouver is connected to the rest of Canada and the United States by four separate railroad systems. Combined with other excellent transport infrastructure is an international airport.

Generally speaking the climate of Vancouver is mild all year round. The city is protected by a mountain range and warmed by Pacific currents. August and July are the warmest months of the year and you will expect to enjoy temperatures of 23 degrees Celsius.
